For most of my Clash of Clan's life, I’ve been helping to manage a clan. In the past year and a half I’ve seen my clan and its members go through the highs and lows of developing a village and maintaining a stable clan. I’ve seen my fellow clan members grow from level 2 archers with cutesy little town halls, to dark and fierce town hall 10’s.
I’ve seen them ranting about teslas, xbows, hogs and dragons, tried calming them as they turned on players with a poor donation ratio, laughed at their antics and watched thousands of replays. Everything was almost perfect.
In April 2014 Clan Wars was introduced. We were thrilled until we started losing.
There was a new enemy. It didn’t have the magical powers of fire or lightning. It was far more real. We weren’t just battling clans, we were battling each other.
The question of why we weren’t winning caused serious mayhem in the clan. We philosophised. We blamed. Some tried to find scapegoats. Was it over aggressive co-leaders? People who weren’t attacking? Those who dared to raid with gobs? Those who “stole” attacks? Did we need more co-leaders? Should we be kicking those who aren’t performing, even though they’ve been loyal for over a year?
But why did some clans succeed where others failed? Was it team work? Was there a strategy? Was it a mindset? The last question might hold the answer.
I created a survey for my clan and found that the factor which contributed the most to my clan members’ stress during war, was fear of failure.
Join me for an epic journey in search of the holy grail of Clash of Clans’ Clan Wars. I will be visiting thousands of clans, and hopefully along the way find the answer.
